About the Author
Hi I’m Jessica!
I’m a mom of four, a communications professional, and the creator of Skyler’s Safety Squad.
According to my mom, I’ve been telling people I was going to write and publish a book since I was about six years old. I guess she was right to believe me, although I don’t think any of us could have imagined this would be the story I’d one day tell.

The idea for Skyler’s Safety Squad comes from someone very close to my heart: my brother, Skyler.
Both of my brothers, Skyler and Errison, chose careers in firefighting, dedicating themselves to helping others and serving their communities, and you will never meet a sister who is more proud to have two heroes for brothers.
After losing Skyler in 2019, I wanted to find a meaningful way to keep his memory alive, not just for those of use who knew and loved him, but for my own children, some of whom never had the chance to meet their uncle.
As a mom, I know how powerful stories can be when it comes to teaching important lessons and starting conversations with our children. I wanted to create something that families could enjoy together while learning practical safety lessons that could one day make a real difference.
What started as a way to honour my brother has also brought me back to a children dream I never quite let go of.
When I’m not working on a new Safety Squad adventure, you’ll usually find me juggling work, family life, and the everyday chaos that comes with raising four kids.
My hope is that these books help families learn together, spark important conversations, and keep a little piece of Skyler’s legacy alive with every story.
Thank you for being here and being part of this journey!
Jessica
